Barbour Concrete Company
is certified by the National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA), the
well-established trade group for the precast concrete industry. Manufacturing
plants certified by the NPCA are established companies with a common
dedication to manufacturing high-quality products for their respective
customers. And, to maintain the NPCA credentials, the company must pass
periodic on-site, unannounced certification inspections.
The certification program
operated by NPCA is designed to help quality-conscious architects, engineers,
contractors and owners when sourcing precast concrete solutions for
their projects. The NPCA quality control manual mandates that quality
starts before the work order reaches the manufacturing plant’s
production schedule. This process assures that products will meet or
exceed specifications, thus improving profits and making life simpler
for their customers.
Currently, the program is
dedicated to setting the highest standards for plant facilities, production
operations and quality control procedures. Products selected from NPCA-certified
plants, like Barbour Concrete Company, are manufactured to exacting
requirements for uncompromising strength, durability and finish.
This demanding certification
criteria address more than 50 separate production and product quality
attributes for conformance with accepted industry standards. Each individual
plant and participating member, is inspected by Wiss, Janney, Elstner
Associates, Inc., a world-wide firm of structural engineers and material
scientists with an international reputation in concrete technology.
Their inspections closely examine production methods, including placement
and fabrication of reinforcement and casting forms. Inspection also
monitors plant procedures including pre-pour operations, storage and
shipment, curing and form stripping to make sure these techniques meet,
or exceed, the certification requirements.
NPCA-certified plants are
required to keep extensive records to verify that production conforms
to product specifications. Work orders, product drawings, equipment
calibration records, aggregate and concrete test records, batching reports
and product inspection reports are required as management tools and
quality assurance aids.
Under this stringent industry
program, Barbour Concrete Company offers products for building and housing
projects, sanitary and storm manhole structures, utility structures
and water & sewage systems.
